Abstract | A strategy to reform the educational system based upon collaboration and inclusion, vision building among all participants, the establishment of a new infrastructure, and the replacement of linear, top-down planning is explained. Each of these four goals is examined with suggestions for implementation given. After this strategy is outlined, three types of activities are given to implement the system within an educational setting. These activities are first to establish "moderating and centering groups," groups where multiple views help people refocus on the shared vision for the schools. Next, system-linked pilot efforts should be designed to provide microcosms of the vision, to create the climate necessary for all. Last, the entire system's characteristics must be modified. This will include accountability, staffing, resource allocation, curriculum and instruction, planning strategies, and parent/community involvement. Footnotes are included. (LMS) |
